Who is entitled to Outplacement in Belgium?

Have you been fired or did you resign? Below you find out whether you are entitled to get outplacement coaching. Outplacement coaching means that you get specialised, professional help to find a new job or to start your own business. I offer the following Outplacement services:

Who is entitled to outplacement coaching?

You have a right for Outplacement Coaching if you meet these 2 conditions:

• You have not been fired for an 'urgent reason' ('dringende reden')

• You have  a notice periode or a severance pay of at least 30 weeks, regardless of your age

Is your notice periode of severance pay less than 30 weeks? Then you can get outplacement coaching if you:

• worked in the private sector

• were fired unvoluntarily (but not for 'urgent reasons')

• are at least 45 years old

• have worked at least 1 year for your employer

• have not reach the legal age for retirement.

​

As employee you are obliged to accept the offer of outplacement, otherwise you can loose your unemployment benefits. An employer can also  offer voluntary outplacement to employees under the age of 45. Then you are not obliged to accept the offer.​

Procedure

Employes should offer outplacement coaching by registered letter and employees have 1 month to accept the offer. If your employer did not offer outplacement coaching while this was mandatory, you can default him at the RVA. The RVA will give you an outplacement cheque and you can select an outplacement coach of your choice. The RVA will then pay the outplacement coach.

Collective dismissal

In case of a collective (non-individual) dismissal the procedure is different. Your employer should than found a 'tewerkstellingscel' that offers outplacement coaching. .

Costs of outplacement

Outplacement coaching is paid for by the employer. Here you find the my hourly rates.
